Android has long been criticized for its fragmentation, especially when it comes to operating system updates. The new iOS versions are almost always installed in only weeks after its release, while some Android phones are still left with versions of two or three years. Of course, part of the problem lies with slowly updated manufacturers or even rarely. Recently, however, these companies have increased their commitments and vivo are the latest promaves to promise three years of major Android OS improvements, at least for its flagship phones.
There was a moment when manufacturers did only guarantee two major Android versions, but most could not even follow that. Others offer an extra year after that, but only for monthly security updates. In recent months, however, some Android manufacturers are promising three or even four years of updates, both the operating system and patches, almost monitored Google’s commitment to its own pixel phones.
Chinese brands are also notorious to drop the ball on such updates, but vivo attempts to change this perception. He has just announced that he is committed to providing three years of improvement of Android OS, but, as always, there is an important capture to this apparently generous promise.
This commitment only applies to its X series of flagship phones and, even only to those to be launched from July 2021. This certainly makes its phones more attractive for long-term use, but that does not say nothing from its other phones already on the market. He does not even include the Vivo X60 Pro + photo on the basis of the one she has just launched last March.
To be fair, it’s always a big jump for a business that may not have the best track record for Android update. OPPO has also been reported to a new similar promise, but that applies to an even closer range of phones, only the FIND X3 series this year.
